If a sudden problem occurs in the PC or device during a firmware update, the upgrade may fail causing difficulties with use of the device. If this is the case, the emergency recovery function can be used to run the firmware upgrade again.
Performing the emergency recovery function involves accessing firmware upgrade failure logs saved in Kies.
Recovering the firmware in an emergency:
- To resolve a firmware upgrade failure, select Tools > Emergency firmware recovery from the top menu bar.
- Select a device from the list of devices that require emergency recovery.
- Switch the device to recovery mode following the displayed instructions.
- Click the Start upgrade button. The firmware will be upgraded to the latest version.
To perform emergency firmware recovery from another PC:
If emergency recovery fails from a PC where a problem occurred, use another PC.
To use the feature, check the recovery code first on the PC that failed to upgrade the firmware.
To find the recovery code, select Tools > Emergency firmware recovery from the pop-up that appears after an upgrade failure. The recovery code can also be found on the menu bar at the top of the Kies screen. Find the recovery code under List of devices requiring emergency recovery.
- Select Tools > Firmware emergency recovery > Emergency recovery using the recovery code. from the top menu bar of the Kies screen.
- Enter the recovery code found on the previous PC.
- Switch the device to recovery mode following the displayed instructions.
- Click the Start upgrade button. The firmware will be upgraded to the latest version.
